Alliance française, a local organization in a global network

Alliance française, part of a global network, promotes French language and Francophone cultures, fostering cultural ties between France and India. In India, there are 15 main Alliances Françaises and 9 annexes, with some centers having branches within the same state (e.g., Indore for Alliance française de Bhopal, Baroda for Alliance française d’Ahmedabad, Udaipur for Alliance française de Jaipur) or in other states (e.g., Bhubaneswar for Alliance française du Bengale).

Globally, Alliances Françaises operate as registered societies, adhering to local laws. The Executive Committee includes prominent Indian personalities who contribute expertise to fulfill the organization’s missions. The president is elected by the Executive Committee members in a General Assembly. A Director, appointed and remunerated by the French Government, manages each institution.

Alliance française in India collaborates closely with Indian partner organizations, the French Embassy, and the French Institute in India.

Alliance française, an institution of reference for learning French

As a premier institution for learning French, Alliance française offers a comprehensive range of courses from beginner to advanced levels for children, teenagers, and adults, emphasizing action-based and communicative teaching methods through authentic content and role-playing. Classes are available online and onsite, with teachers regularly trained to adapt to new pedagogical challenges.

Alliance française serves as the official French certification center, conducting annual sessions for DELF/DALF (French language diplomas), TEF, and TCF exams, recognized internationally for language proficiency useful for employment or further studies in France.

Each center hosts a library with magazines, books, interactive tools, and movies, supplemented by the online platform Culturethèque.

Alliance française, a cultural centre of choice

As a non-profit local association, Alliance française is a cultural hub for Indian, French, and Francophone artists, offering diverse cultural programs such as music, dance, theatre, and photography in various formats like festivals, conferences, and performances. It fosters intercultural dialogue and collaborations with local organizations, the Indian Council for Cultural Relations, and other prominent cultural and educational institutions.
